MARINA ABRAMOVIC & DARIA PARKHOMENKO.
Measuring the Magic of Mutual Gaze.
Documentation of the artistic and scientific performance-experiment, Laboratoria Art&Science Space, 2012
Special program of the symposium 'Brainstorm. The Artist in the Context of Neuroscience'
The experiment was prepared by professor Alexander Kaplan and senior scientist Arina Kochetova, Laboratory for Neurophysiology and Neuro-Computer Interfaces, Moscow State University.

Together with the group of American and Russian scientists Marina Abramovic researches the non-verbal communication, a phenomenon that she has dealt with more than once in her previous artwork. Being a continuation of the performance The Artist Is Present at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), this artistic and scientific experiment is a result of collaboration between the artist, the curator Daria Parkhomenko and neuroscientists. Abramovic wonders whether there could be any scientific explanation of the tense contact that occurs when two people stare into each other eyes incessantly, and whether this non-verbal contact leads to the synchronization in brain activity. The experiment's outcomes are studied by the Laboratory for Neurophysiology and Neuro-Computer Interfaces, Moscow State University.
